September 2018 update
The Peel Says No to Violence (PSNTV) project specifically aims to –
• Better understand family and domestic violence in the Peel region;
• Increase the awareness of support services for women and children experiencing family and/or domestic violence; and
• Create a movement of people “The Alliance” in the Peel community who will pledge to undertake action around domestic violence.
The PSNTV core project team is currently working to secure the ongoing sustainability of the project and ensure continuation of the excellent work that has been completed so far.
What has been achieved?
Initial funding was received from the Department of Social Services under the Building Safer Communities for Women and Children program. This enabled the PSNTV to undertake the following activities:
• Research into the prevalence of FDV in the Peel region including –
- sourcing and collation of data from state government agencies on reported incidence of FDV
- surveying all Peel-based community service providers to understand the breadth and scope of FDV service delivery
- one-to-one interviews of 20 local women who have experienced FDV, to identify what helped and what made a difference
• Establishing the PSNTV Alliance, enabling individuals, organisations and businesses to support the Peel Says No To Violence message and to ‘pledge’ to do an activity that improves understanding and awareness of, and ultimately reduces, FDV in our region.
What is happening now?
We are currently seeking financial support from government, corporations and private enterprise to continue the ongoing work of the Alliance and the positive impact of the project. If you can assist in this area please get in touch with us using the contact form below.
